Callington-based food company Ginsters, well known for its pasties, has reported a positive sales performance in the fourth quarter of 2008 and has promised more jobs for local residents, despite the doom and gloom everywhere else.
The company went under a re-branding exercise in June and following the new packaging and logo, emphasising the company's roots in the south west, they have had record breaking sales growth. Ginsters' local heritage is an essential part of the brand, and its advertising shows the vegetables, meat and flour that it sources from south west farms.
Bringing revenue back into the Cornish community, they have a high demand for their products, meaning 27 new jobs at the bakery in Callington, which is great news for any unemployed people seeking a job in the south west.
The Production Director for Ginsters, Ray Hanly said "We're incredibly proud of our Cornish roots and the effect our re-branding has had on sales this year has been absolutely amazing. It's a consequence of this that we are in a position to create 27 new positions within our local bakery
along with a number of new training initiatives.
"The positions we have created are skilled technician roles as we require trained controllers to maintain the smooth operation of our manufacturing process to ensure we have the most efficient system for bringing our top quality products to market. Our intensive training programme not only offers our people the correct training for the job, it also enables them to work towards a City & Guilds qualification authorised by a local college.
"It gives us great pride, during such difficult times, to be able to offer job security and training to our personnel. We hope to continue our growth through creation of new products and technical innovation within the bakery and we could never have achieved such results without the hard work and dedication of our bakery professionals."
Ginsters sister company, Tamar Foods, is also based in Callington and has added to the good news coming from the south west, as it has recruited 87 new permanent staff since August 2007. They are also advertising for ten other positions which are yet to be filled.
The Managing Director, Wayne Day, comments "You cannot deny that market conditions are tough and are likely to get tougher. However, our growth demonstrates that there are still opportunities out there for firms with good quality products and skilled people. Our creation of such a large number of new, permanent positions should provide a welcome boost for the local economy."
